The Association of International Malaysian Schools (AIMS)

What is AIMS ?

AIMS is a non-profit membership organisation, dedicated to the advancement of international education in Malaysia, via the provision of services to its member schools. AIMS was registered with the Registrar of Societies on 4 November 1998, under Section 7 of the Societies Act 1966.

The objectives of the Association are to :

  • promote understanding between international school communities and the people of the host country, Malaysia
  • promote further international cooperation by encouraging cultural, academic and sporting links between schools
  • provide a forum for international schools in Malaysia to meet and discuss matters of mutual interest to the educational needs of students
  • provide a channel of communication for discussing and / or presenting matters to the Ministry of Education and / or State Education Offices
  • act as a consultative body contributing to the improvement of educational standards in Malaysia

AIMS's Membership

Membership of AIMS is open to all schools :

  • which are registered with the Ministry of Education in Malaysia;
  • which have students who do not follow the Malaysian Curriculum;
  • which do not permit Malaysian students to enter without special dispensation from the Ministry of Education; and
  • which are recognised by, or are members of, an international, regional or governmental educational examination authority; and
  • which provide kindergarten, primary and or secondary education.

AIMS schools are varied in composition, enrolment and curriculum. Some offer United Kingdom curriculum models; some are Australian in curriculum, some are North American in curriculum and ethos, whilst others combine a national system of education with an international philosophy, within a Malaysia context. Some schools offer boarding facilities. In most instances, AIMS schools are independent in ownership and management.

The original schools that came together in 1997 with the idea of forming an Association were :

  • Mutiara International Grammar School
  • Sayfol International School
  • Fairview International School
  • Tuanku Jaafar College
  • Garden International School
  • Alice Smith School
  • ISKL
  • Uplands School Penang
  • St Christopher's Penang
  • elc International School

Membership has now risen to 23 international schools across Malaysia.
