It All Adds Up: SJIS Scores Success In International Maths Olympiad
The results for the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) were recently released, with local private school St. John's International School (SJIS) bagging a clutch of awards to add to their impressive maths trophy cabinet.SASMO is one of the largest mathematics competitions in Asia, growing from 155 local participants in 2006 to well over 22,000 students from 20 countries today. The contest papers are carefully developed to combine both traditional and 'Olympiad' mathematical thinking. SASMO caters to the top 40% of the student population and their mathematical intuition, reasoning, logic and creative thinking, with the intention to improve their Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS).
SJIS, fresh off the back of success in the recent Singapore Math Global Team (SINGA) contest, continued their rich run of form in academic competition. Several students from Year 7 to Year 11 took home a series of Gold (Top 8%), Silver (Top 12%) and Bronze (Top 20%) Awards. Phua Yufan (Year 7) took home the only Gold, with SJIS adding five Silver Awards and three Bronze Awards to their fine collection of academic achievements.
All SASMO 2019 Gold, Silver and Bronze award winners will be invited to join SIMOC (Singapore International Mathematics Olympiad Challenge), IJMO (International Junior Math Olympiad), and AIMO (Asia International Mathematical Olympiad).
