Introduction

SEGi College Subang Jaya offers a wide range of early childhood training programmes through the Faculty of Education, Social and Health Sciences. Since 1998, the faculty then known as Summit International College, has developed its niche expertise in the field of early childhood education, producing well over 1,000 graduates who have joined the early childhood industry or who have honed their parenting skills. With programmes that emphasize child-centred learning and total child development, we aim to develop graduates who are able to give children the best possible start in life. Our programmes are passion-guided and industry-driven.

The International Diploma in Montessori Pedagogy

Our long established partnership with the Montessori Centre International (MCI) UK reflects our commitment to excellence in early childhood education. MCI is Europe’s largest Montessori teacher training college. At the core of its training programme is the Montessori system of education - a childcentred approach which is used all over the world. SEGi is the sole authorized representative of MCI in Malaysia, offering its internationally recognized Diploma in Montessori Pedagogy. MCI courses are accredited and validated by the following organizations:

British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education (BAC)
Open and Distance Learning Quality Council (ODLQC)
Montessori Education UK

Diploma in Early Childhood Education

The SEGi Diploma in Early Childhood Education has also been well received by parents and members of the industry. Students in this programme gain knowledge, experience and practical training that prepare them for the multitude of challenges in early childhood education. This holistic study of Early Childhood Education covers a range of topics including Foundations in Early Childhood Education, Psychology of Young Children, Development of an Early Childhood Professional, Early Childhood Pedagogy, Studies for Young Children, Creative Arts and Montessori Theory and Practice. All SEGi Diploma programmes are subject to an ongoing internal and external moderation of assessment to ensure that quality and academic standards are upheld. Our External Examination Review Board comprises distinguished experts from the industry.

Bachelor of Early Childhood Education

Both the International Diploma in Montessori Pedagogy and the Diploma in Early Childhood Education articulate into the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education awarded by the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), Australia. This 3+0 degree programme offers students a high level of knowledge and understanding of issues and practices that impact on early childhood care and education. The quality of USQ courses is recognized through its many awards won. These include being the Joint Winner of the Good Universities Guide's 'University of the Year' for 2000-2001 and the Institutional Prize of Excellence awarded by The International Council for Open and Distance Learning (ICDE).

Montessori Early Childhood Seminars

The College has recently opened our Montessori Diploma classes to members of the public. Busy parents and educators who cannot find the time to commit to the study of a full diploma will enjoy the flexibility of these seminars. Participants may choose subjects of their choice, and attend seminars on days and times at their convenience.

Entry Requirements

SEGi welcomes students of all ages, from 17 years onwards who hold these qualifications:

For Diploma: SPM / O-Levels / UEC (3 credits including English) or equivalent
For Degree: 2 passes in STPM / A Levels / Pre-U or equivalent
