Kolej DIKAKolej DiKa extends a warm welcome to all, especially to students who are seeking to enrich their lives through livelong learning.

Education in Malaysia has progressed tremendously. To face the challenge of the future, everyone aspires to do better. Many want to have an earlier start – one that begins before formal primary level education. This must be available at preschool level and be based on a sound footing with a well thought-out curriculum, trained teachers and an environment conducive to learning.

The above is the basis and the commitment that led to the establishment of Kolej DiKa. It aims to provide trained early childhood practitioners for childcare centres and kindergartens in Malaysia.

VISION

  • To become one of the institutions for early childhood education, Kolej DiKa trains quality professional childcare and kindergarten teachers to work with children and families in Malaysia.
  • To enhance the standard of preparing professionals in early childhood education by offering high quality, skill-based, training programmes which will produce a workforce with the knowledge as well as abilities to provide excellent services to the community.

OBJECTIVE

  1. To help meet the demand for qualified early childhood teachers in line with the government's 10-year plan of increasing preschool attendance and quality.
  2. To provide continuity in preschool teacher education through alliances with foreign universities in the United States, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand by offering certificate, diploma and degree programmes, and post-graduate studies.
  3. To offer certification in preschool teaching of the English Language to complement the government's efforts to improve the standard of English.
  4. To build the image and professionalism of preschool teachers.

Contributing to Early Childhood Education Development in Singapore
For more than 15 years since its inception, Kinderland Learning Centre has trained over 6,000 early childhood teachers for various kindergartens and child care centres in Singapore. It was renamed KLC School of Education in June 2002.

The KLC School of Education was established to lend focus on and continue KLC's commitments to provide trained early childhood practitioners for child care centres and kindergartens in Singapore. Today, KLC ranks as one of Singapore's longest established and most successful teacher training and professional development institutions.

KLC School of Education offers early childhood education training programmes at certificate and diploma levels accredited by the Singapore Ministry of Education and Ministry of Community Development & Sports. It also offers twinning and accredited degree programmes in collaboration with foreign universities, namely, Queensland University of Technology, Australia and Beijing Normal University, China.

As a training institute, KLC has built its reputation on intellectual innovation and a practical faith in the benefits of multiculturalism to assist early childhood educators/students in developing into well-informed, globally adept and efficient practitioners. To stay relevant in the forefront of early childhood training and to leverage on knowledge worldwide, Kolej DiKa has twinning and accredited degree programmes in collaboration with foreign universities namely, Queensland University of Technology, Australia; KLC School of Education, Singapore; and University of Teesside, UK.

ABOUT EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

This course is an exciting venture as the field of early childhood education is rapidly expanding. In a society where the education of young children is recognized as the foundation of their future learning, the career opportunities in this field now demands well qualified practitioners who have a sound understanding of the learning needs of young children.

The philosophy of the course is to prepare you to enter a profession as a practitioner in areas which you are well qualified and act as an advocate of early years education.

DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (KP/JPS/KA5570110/09)

The course aims to:

  • enable students to become confident, well-educated and reflective early years practitioners with the skills to respond to developments in the field of early childhood education.
  • prepare students for their professional development and career choices. These include being an Educationist, Creative Writer, Children Events Organizer, Entrepreneur, Entertainer, Au Pair, Researcher, Marketing for children's products / health / nutrition / insurance / toys & more.
  • develop student's intellectual capabilities specifically related to Early Childhood Education
  • enable the development of critical reasoning and analytical skills in relation to philosophical, sociological and psychological concepts
  • equip students with skills, knowledge and understanding of theories relating to child development and learning influences crucial to current practice.

The Diploma in Early Childhood Education also provides access to a range of careers in working with young children and lays the foundation for progression towards undergraduate professional qualifications.

DIPLOMA IN SPECIAL EDUCATION (EARLY YEARS)

Course Objectives
The Diploma in Special Education (Early Years) is specially designed for individuals with a passion for educating children with special needs. The objectives include providing candidates with the appropriate knowledge and skills to:

  • provide for the educational needs of young children experiencing physical or mental challenges
  • deliver lessons in a variety of modes within a regular inclusive classroom setting
  • develop students’ intellectual capabilities specifically related to Special Education
  • understand and be an advocate for children with special needs and their families

The Diploma in Special Education (Early Years) is designed to provide educators and care givers of special children the understanding and latest approach used in Special Education.

BASIC CHILDCARE COURSE
(KURSUS ASAS ASUHAN KANAK-KANAK)

Kolej Dika is appointed by the Department of Social Welfare, Malaysia, through the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development to deliver the Certificate in Basic Childcare course (KAAK). KAAK is a compulsory course for all childcare providers in accordance with the Childcare Centres Act 1984, Regulations 41 & Regulations (Institutional) 1985.

This is an articulation arrangement where students who have completed their Diploma in Early Childhood Education at Kolej Dika are now eligible to enrol in the degree programme. Students then go through a 1-year top-up degree to obtain their degree, covering 5 modules over 3 semesters.
