Drinking Milk can be Fun ... How? I don’t like the boring way of drinking milk from a box. If I can’t finish it, it will be wasted. I also don’t like to put it in my school bag because if it leaks or breaks, my books will be wet and dirty. My choice….mmmh… MAGNOLIA Magnolia has 5 flavours for me to choose from. They have Chocolate, Strawberry, Grape, Vanilla and Plain. I can choose for a Strawberry for my breakfast on Mondays, Plain for Tuesdays at school, Chocolate for the Wednesdays at swimming pool, vanilla with my friend on Thursday and mom’s favourite Grape for Fridays. A-ha! I can also change my flavour for the day at any time, even for Saturdays and Sundays. Isn’t that fun? Magnolia milk is high in calcium and it is also high in Vitamins A and D. these are the three most important vitamins and minerals that I need. Psst…there’s a secret! Magnolia milk comes in a plastic bottle with a drip-proof cap. So, I can carry it around to wherever I like and I don’t have to force myself to finish the whole bottle like I used to do. Wasting is a bad habit, don’t you know that? Why is Milk so good? Drinking milk is the most natural way to give our body the needed vitamins and minerals. It is even more important for growing up kids like us as we are physically more active and we need more constant nutrient supply as we grow. Today the Magnolia team came to our school to give us free Magnolia Milk. Everybody gets one bottle and I’ve got my favourite Strawberry flavour. They also told me why milk is important for us. Why Milk? Everybody knows that milk contains calcium. But do you know that milk also contains eight other essential vitamins and minerals too? Protein: Vital to brain development and the growth of body tissues Vitamin A: Maintains good eye-sight. It also helps regulate cell growths and integrity of the immune system. Vitamin B-12: Essential for growth and health of the nervous system. Vitamin D: Promotes the absorption of calcium and phosphorous, and influences bone mineralization to strength the bones. Without Vitamin D, our body absorbs only 10-15% of the calcium we take. Potassium: Regulates the body’s fluid balance and blood pressure Phosphorus: Helps generate energy in the body’s cells and influences bone mineralization to strengthen the bones. Niacin: Keeps enzymes functioning normally and helps the body process sugars and fatty acids which is important for developing the nervous system. Riboflavin: Helps produce energy in the body’s cells and is important for developing the nervous system. So, why is Calcium so critical to our health? Our bodies continually remove and replace small amounts of calcium from our bones. If our bodies remove more calcium than it replaces, our bones will become weaker and break easily. Calcium needs are highest during childhood and teen years, because the bones are growing faster. Eating and drinking foods that are good courses of calcium from young age can help store this important nutrient in our bones for later in life. Nutrition guidelines recommend that children ages 4-8 get 800 milligrams(mg) of calcium per day but between ages 9-18, the need for more calcium increases because our bones are growing more than at other times of life. |
